Building the Future of Rotary
Through Innovation
Helping clubs and organizations grow through flexibility, inclusion, and modern membership strategy.
Patrick Longano is one of the leading voices in Rotary innovation and modern membership growth. As the creator of the Companion Club concept and founder of the IMPACT model, Patrick has helped reshape how clubs around the world think about attraction, retention, flexibility, and service.
What started as a simple idea — creating more choices for people who want to serve — has grown into a global movement. Companion Clubs now account for a significant percentage of new club innovation across North America and continue spreading internationally as Rotary leaders search for new ways to grow while remaining true to Rotary's mission.
"Give people choices when they join Rotary and options before they leave." — Patrick Longano
Known for blending innovation with practical execution, Patrick has been selected to present at four consecutive Rotary International Conventions:
- Houston 2022
- Melbourne 2023
- Singapore 2024
- Calgary 2025
In 2025, Patrick proposed the creation of the North American Club Creation Team — a first-of-its-kind initiative designed to help clubs and districts launch new club models and remove barriers to growth. Rotary International accepted the proposal, and Patrick was chosen to lead the initiative across all 10 Zones in North America.
Today, Patrick works directly with clubs, districts, and organizational leaders to help them rethink growth, engagement, retention, and community impact in a rapidly changing world. His message challenges organizations to stop trying to fit people into outdated systems and instead build systems that fit people's lives.
Patrick lives in Lenoir, North Carolina with his wife Angela and their son Harrison. He is also the Co-owner of DACdb, one of Rotary's leading membership and club management platforms.

The future of Rotary will not be built on a one-size-fits-all model. It will be built on a membership ecosystem that gives people meaningful choices throughout every stage of their Rotary journey.
Patrick’s Companion Ladder framework was created to help Rotary evolve from a single entry point into a flexible pathway of engagement — offering choices when people join Rotary and options before they leave.
At the local level, Companion Clubs provide flexible ways to serve while remaining connected to a home club. At the district level, the STEP Companion model creates a safety net for members whose life circumstances, schedules, careers, or family obligations no longer align with their local club experience.
Instead of losing good people to attrition, districts can now provide continued connection, service opportunities, and community until members are ready to reengage locally again.
Patrick believes Rotary’s future depends on its ability to adapt to people’s lives without asking them to abandon their desire to serve, ensuring that no one willing to make an impact is ever priced out, scheduled out, or left out.
